Welcome to our training page

Co-op Radio offers station orientations and 3 types of trainings:

Station orientation: open to everyone who wants to learn more about Co-op Radio.
Core training: 4 trainings mandatory for all new programmers.
Operator training: open to people who want to learn to use the board and the equipment.
Workshops: open to everyone from the station or not

Station orientation

Core training

All new programmers are required to take the full Core Training program which consists of 4 sessions. These sessions are modular, meaning that they can be taken in any order. There is a $10 fee per training.

Core 1: Policy and Regulations
The basics of your responsibilities as a programmer: the laws and policies that govern you as a broadcaster at Co-op Radio. We also look at how to work well as a group and communication skills when giving feedback.

Core 2: On-Air Skills
The basics of on-air skills: show formats, interview skills, writing for radio. We also look at communication skills when receiving feedback.

Core 3: Fundraising and Community Engagement
The skills you need to help you meet your fundraising requirements to the station: donor types,strategies for fundraising, how to pitch on-air and in-person. We also look at how to use social media to connect with your audience.

Core 4: Production Skills
The basics of recording and editing sound: proper recording technique, using Audacity to edit sound.

Operator training

Current workshops

Podcasting 101
Saturday September 28th, from 12pm - 3.30pm

Looking to bring your podcasting idea to life but don't know where to start? Join Vancouver Co-op Radio on September 28th, and we'll show you how to get the ball rolling!

You will learn:

Interviewing / Broadcasting Skills - We’ll go through what to include in a podcast & a useful order to present it
Audio Editing - Learn the basics of Audacity & open source audio libraries
Hosting & Sharing Audio - Where & how to share your newly created audio piece
Marketing Your Show - Learn to create a marketing plan to help reach your audience

This event is free and will be accepting optional pay-what-you-may donations for admission.
